National Telephonists’ Day took place on 10 March 2016 and companies across the UK recognised the work of their telephonists in many different ways. The day marks the anniversary of the first ever telephone call made by Alexander Graham Bell in 1876.
National Telephonists' Day 2016 raises over £1000 for charity
This year switchboard management teams within ComXo and many of our City of London based clients, organised a vast array of events for their teams. There were personalised t-shirts, telephone shaped cakes, tongue twisters, quizzes and endless tea, coffee and cupcake rounds throughout the day (and night!) to name but a few of the activities on offer. ComXo MD, Andrew Try worked a 24 hour shift to recognise his teams remarkable efforts, and even managed to visit some of their clients own switchboard teams armed with flowers, cakes and small gifts.
A new addition for 2016 was our partnership with Action on Hearing Loss who are a national charity who help people to confront deafness, tinnitus and hearing loss to live the life they choose. Representatives from the charity came and presented at sites across London to promote awareness of the charity and provided helpful tips to switchboard teams when communicating with people who are hard of hearing. During the day lots of activities took place with Raffle Prizes being donated to raise funds for this worthwhile cause and we’re delighted that we were able to present Action on Hearing Loss with a cheque for £1140.
Andrews Try, Managing Director of ComXo commented:
“At the heart of everything we do are our telephonists, and National Telephonists’ Day was designed to show our appreciation for the vital role they play in ours and our clients organisations. I am especially pleased to see how many companies took part in the celebrations this year, be it baking for their switchboard teams or sharing their team photograph on Facebook; we’re delighted that so many global companies recognise the uniquely challenging nature of the role.
Meeting and hearing from the Action on Hearing Loss team was a great addition to the day and we’re thrilled that we were able to support such a worthwhile cause. Planning for 2017 is already underway at ComXo and next year we aim to make celebrations bigger and better!”
